Jamdani Saree


Jamdani - one of the most beautiful, famous, rich work Bengali Saree. Jamdani is a handloom woven mainly cotton fabric made, which was historically referred as muslin. Jamdani is one of the most time and labor intensive forms of handloom weaving.
History of Jamdani is, it basically Persian origin, ‘Jam’ means flower and ‘Dani’ means a vase. There is reference of Jamdani weaving in Kautilya's Arthashashtra  wherein it is stated that is stated that fine cloth was used in Bangla and Pundra(Bangladesh).
Jamdani patterns means geometric, plant, and floral designs. Which is originate in Persian and Mughal fusion. According to its design and pattern Jamdani has different names like panna hajar, dubli lala, butidar, tersa, jalar, duria, charkona etc. 



Different types of Jamdani include: -
Daccai Jamdani
·  Daccai Jamdani – originally its a Bangladeshi style.  The main Daccai Jamdani sarees pattern is floral motifs and linear multicolored designs all over the body of the saree.
















Shantiput Jamdani
·  Shantipur Jamdani – As per the name, it belongs to Shantipur region of Nadia District of West Bengal, the pattern is rich fine-grained texture. Main thing is the softness of the fabrics.
















Tangail Jamdani
·  Tangail Jamdani – originated in the Tangail region, the Tangail Jamdani sarees pattern means traditional borders with lamp (Pradeep), lotus (Padma) and fish scales or Aansh paar patterns. The bright color combination  on the Anchals or the part of the saree is the speciality of tangail Jamdani.











Dhoniakhali Jamdani
·  Dhonekhali Jamdani –   its origin in Dhonekhali in West Bengal. the Dhonekhali Jamdani saree attribute is its borders with contrasting colors in black, purple, red or any other dark & bright colors. The Dhonekhali Jamdani sarees are hardier and have a longer life than the other variations.
